How Slow Can We Go?

We thought that we would have had our fill of Fall leaves by now but we seem seem unable to move any more quickly.  This is no doubt due to the fact that we have stayed off of the interstate and have wound our way through every quaint port town between Freeport and Boston.  As soon as it gets dark (when much of our driving progress has traditionally occured), we have felt compelled to stop for the night for fear that we will miss out on some great lighthouse/port village/coast view/colorful tree etc… highlights: Old Orchard Beach, Kennebunkport, Portsmouth, Newburyport and Salem.

You might be wondering how we manage to drive through some of these small towns and well I won’t bore you with the details but lets just stay that we may have had to detach the Acura a few times to get out of tight spots.  However Greg’s crash-free, nick-free, bump-free record is still without blemish.  Of course curbs and cranberry shrubs don’t really count.

There were lots of real witches in Salem at this time of year – the friendly Pagan Wiccan sort.  I was personally freaked out enough at the witch trial recreations at the Salem Witch Museum, but that didn’t stop the gang from finding a haunted house to go to right after– it was actually a Hollywood horror museum that turns into a Haunted House at night in October – so some of us were able to view the museum before it came “alive.”  The penchant for adrenaline rush activities has caused a split among us.  Kambria, Drake & I choose to wait outside during such activities while Greg, Mason, Dane and Avalon (yes Avalon) love to be thoroughly freaked out.  We also went to a pirate museum, which sounded innocuous enough for me, until I came around the corner and there was a creepy man in a mask who waived his arms and gave me a heart attack.  He wasn’t even in a pirate costume!  I guess everyone wants in on the creepy in this town.  Luckily we found a great restaurant (Grapevine), which redeemed Salem for me somewhat.
