Our Nation's First Capitol

We had a little catch up with homework, cleaning, laundry, etc…on Saturday before heading out of New York - a few repairs, since we came back to 60 degrees and no working heater.  Greg figured out that it was a broken thermostat and was able to get it sort of working -  he promised me it would not start a fire, even though it now only had two modes:  full blast or off.  Besides my spending the night neurotically thinking that I smelled something burning, it worked perfectly. It was pouring rain all afternoon as we drove through New Jersey– we were fortunate to have missed this weather in New York, where it was quite warm. 

Sunday we attended church at the South Philadelphia Branch.  The “church” was actually space in a larger commercial building, and while this is not uncommon, especially in big cities, our kids had never experienced such variety in church accommodations.  Philadephia is a little bit of a crazy town – there are one-way streets zig-zagging everywhere and the outskirts are not very “nice.” One thing that Greg really liked is that you can park anywhere, literally.   On the curbs, on the sidewalk, or just double park, it doesn’t matter.  There were a lot of signs that said “park at your own risk,” but we just ignored that.  We were glad that we had left the RV in NJ.  

We spent the afternoon strolling around the historic old town of Philadelphia, visiting all the sights there.  Highlights were Independence Hall, Congress Hall, the Liberty Bell, Franklin Court and Museum and the National Constitution Center.  The exhibits and tours were great.

The kids were completely satisfied with the amount of history they absorbed with regards to the Founding Fathers and the birth of Democracy.  Greg and I could have happily spent another few days here.  There is much to see.
