It is entirely possible that we lost our good weather karma somewhere in the Texas desert - maybe when we killed Bambi? Yes, after a perfect driving record, Greg finally has some legitimate road kill to his credit. Thankfully, he never even swerved; of course in the kids book this practically makes him a murderer. It was pouring rain as we drove into San Diego. I felt marginally better when I was sent the above photos from home however.

We made really good driving time (Greg hates it when I say this because it usually means that I go to sleep while he is still driving and then when I wake up I say 'wow, that went really fast'). And this was actually the case last night - Greg intended to drive for just an hour or so, but the NAV led him to some random shortcut to cut back to HWY 8 which had a strange detour... through total boondocks in the middle of the night where he almost ran out of gas. Once Greg got to the main highway, apparently every rest stop for miles was "closed" (budget crisis?) and there aren't really any towns. So Greg just kept driving - mostly out of fear that should he pull over, bandits would sneak across the nearby Mexican border and kill us in our sleep.
We hooked up with friends in Encinitas, Johnna and kids and Kelly L. We all went to dinner, sat at the Pope's table, and got caught up on life. It was a great day (despite the freezing rain and wind).
So...no Utah I guess.
ReplyDeleteWas just in Encinitas with the kids for a week before Thanksgiving. Missed you by only a couple of weeks! :-) Stayed in Carlsbad, but favorite place for hitting the surf and sand was Moonlight Beach in Encinitas... My children did not let the frigid water temperatures keep them from catching some waves on boogie boards four days in a row. Crazy kids. Looking forward to Bunco and to having you guys back in town! xo C
