Greg's Diagnosis

Dear family & loved ones - We wanted to let you know that on Wednesday Greg was diagnosed with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC).  After feeling under the weather for a few months and being unsuccessfully treated by two urgent care physicians, he took it upon himself to get a whole body CT scan on Tuesday and they discovered an 8.8 cm tumor in his kidney.  It looks at this point as if it has spread at least to a lymph node at the base of his trachea and to the bottom of his lungs.  He is being treated at the Stanford Cancer Center.  Through a series of small miracles, he walked in with no appointment on Thursday with scans and blood work in hand and was able to get in to see Dr. Sandy Srinavas.  She is an absolutely amazing urological oncologist who we had singled out in our research the night before because she specializes only in RCC and bladder cancer.  She just happened to be in clinic that day and in fact just happened to be one of the only oncologists not at a conference in Europe this week.  They were then able to get Greg on the schedule Thursday night for additional CT scans due to a cancellation and one hour later we got the call that he was scheduled for a laparoscopic kidney removal on Tuesday (July 5) because Dr. Srinavas had run into that particular surgeon (Dr. Chung) in the hall while Greg's scans were in her hand.

We had enough friends who have gone through these types of things to realize that such a favorable sequence of events is no coincidence and are so grateful to Chris Porter & Tim Lyons for blessing Greg that the way would be paved for him to get the treatment he needs and Adrienne for insisting that we should just drive to Stanford and be the squeaky wheel.  We will have more information about treatment etc after Tuesday.

We love you all and appreciate your prayers!

Love Kaele & Greg
