I had heard how cool the underground Seattle tour was, so we headed out bright and early (10:30) for our day in the city making that our first stop. (We got to see Mt. Rainier on the way - beautiful sunny day!) The kids really liked walking under the sidewalks - and we learned more about the history of Seattle than I know about the history of Sacramento. We walked along the wharf and stopped at Ivars for fish and chips - food was really good but the main attraction was clearly that the restaurant actually encourages its patrons to feed the seagulls - not only did this entertain the kids, but it saved us all those calories, and if we all left a bit hungry..., well it was worth it. We stopped at various street performers and eventually ended up at Pike Place Market where we bought king crab legs for dinner (for only the regular price of $25/ lb they even packed them on ice!). But something here just compels you to eat seafood. And of course we had to get some golden raspberries once the kids spied them. We then headed to the Space Needle - I mean you can't go to Seattle and not go up in the Space Needle, right? Well actually we can and we didn't - since it was closed for a private party. We consoled the kids with a few fair rides at the "Fun Forest," and we now are the proud owners of an annual pass to the EMP/SFM (Experience Music Project/ Science Fiction Museum Hall of Fame), which was super cool. Paul Allen is a real scifi junkie - half the stuff in the museum is from his personal collection. It got us all in the mood to watch a science fiction movie but the only one we had was Terminator which we had not seen for 20 years. We thought, how bad can it be? and cozied up after crab dinner for family movie night - which lasted through two nude bums and one profanity (about 5 minutes) before we swapped it our for Sky High. It started raining as we headed home so our sunny Seattle is a thing of the past.
