Zion

Jackson County, MO – We went to the visitor’s center in Independence.  Dane & Drake had learned all about this in their Primary class (thanks Sister Babcock!) and were really excited to see it all in person.  They decided that the grass area was so huge (60 acres) because all of the people in the whole church have to be able to fit there.  We all enjoyed watching all of the (many) video clips around the displays.

Liberty Jail – This partially reconstructed jail gave a real sense of the circumstances of the early church leader’s incarceration.  It was a really neat presentation.  Avi was fascinated and had a ton of questions for the sister missionary.  “Why is there no handle on the door?”  “How did those people trap them here?” “Why is there a desk in there?”  I am not sure that all of the people on the tour appreciated her inquiries as much as we did.

Far West, MO – We were the only people here (except a maintenance worker) and it was a beautiful spot on a hill.  All that is left are the four cornerstones of the temple and a monument explaining the importance of this place – and if we timed it right in between the rotations of the sprinklers, we could even read all of the plaques without getting wet– beauty of the off-season.  (There was also a really awesome sewage treatment pond that now has several hundred acorns glubbing up the filter).

Adam-ondi-Ahman – We had heard from a reliable source that the couples who care take of this property report directly to President Monson (rather than a mission president),  and that their missionary tags have their names printed in gold.  So we hoped to get a glimpse of them but these mysterious, perhaps mythical persons were nowhere to be found.  We enjoyed looking over the valley and walking around Tower Hill.  The leaves are just starting to turn  – very peaceful.
