Detroit to Cleveland (more fun than it sounds)

Henry Ford Museum & Factory Tour – Dearborn, Michigan

Well worth the stop.  After making the long drive across Michigan, we checked the museum out yesterday and realized that we would have to stick around until today if we wanted to tour the Ford Rouge Factory.  It was totally worth it (that might change if we hit snow in Maine).  It was a 4-mile assembly line with hundreds of workers doing every little task.  I asked the kids if they liked it and Avalon said “I never even knew that this was how they make cars.  Dad has some of these tools but he doesn’t have all of them.”  Mason and Greg would have liked to see more of the automated sections (cool robots) on the assembly; Greg is sure the union designed the tour so that what we saw was sure to leave the impression that cars simply cannot be made without all of theses hard-working Americans!!  The museum had every Ford car plus hundreds of others, including all of the Presidential limousines through 1992 (including the fateful JFK limo), Rosa Park’s bus, dozens of the earliest airplanes, trains, carriages etc.  It also had an industrial section that showed the progression of steam powered engines.  Super cool!

Kalahari WaterPark – Sandusky, Ohio

A much looked forward to stop, we actually were able to get the kids up early today so that they would have maximum time to spend at the “World’s Largest Indoor Waterpark.”  Whether or not the claims are true, it was amazing.  It was probably double the size of SunSplash.  The super high ceiling was glass so that you could still get a tan even though it is 50 degrees outside – and there was hardly anyone there. This of course meant that we had to climb 6 flights of stairs every five minutes instead of every hour – something that did not phase the kids.  After several hours of abuse, Greg & I escaped to the adult only indoor/outdoor spa and let the kids go wild while Mason focused on improving his surfing skills on the FlowRider.  I think that we were the last ones to leave (what else is new??)
