Rock n' Roll

We stuck around our RV park for a few hours to catch up on laundry and schoolwork and then headed for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, just an hour away in the beautiful city of Cleveland.  We really didn’t have anything else on the agenda but Greg made the comment that each one of these cities that we are breezing through could easily be an interesting stop for several days.  I had to agree as out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of  a sign that said “A Christmas Story House & Museum.”  If we had been anything but a 60’ vehicle driving through a neighborhood on a narrow road that said no trucks over 5 tons, we would have swung a U-turn and checked it out.  As it is we had no luck talking the parking attendant at the dock to let us in her lot and ended up paying three parking meters in front of the Cleveland Brown’s stadium.

The Hall of Fame was really great – highlights for the kids were Michael Jackson’s torn red jacket from the Thriller video, Elvis’ bedazzled white concert jumpsuit, and the really big scary blow-up teacher used by Pink Floyd’s The Wall Concert Tour.  Avi was particularly impressed with ZZTop’s furry white drums and quite frightened of the face on Queen’s bass drum (I guess the drums were more at her eye level than the rest of the displays).  The various film clips inspired us to buy not 1, not 2, but 3 DVDs containing the “best of” music videos from the 80s.  That should provide for some interesting evening entertainment.  We were able to skip two whole levels of the museum because it was a special Bruce Springsteen exhibit.  And let’s just say that Greg is fine with that being a gap in the kid’s musical education.

  1. Got a feeling that Greg put a few extra dimes in those parking meters for when he returns to celebrate Foreigner's entry into the Hall.

  2. I was thinking, hmm... "how can I help with the education of these great kids?" when I saw that you skipped two floors of "the boss".

Ok, I confess; I was really thinking, "how can I bother Greg?" I though if greg was happy to skip two floors of Bruce Springsteen, he probably wouldn't appreciate the kids playing his music all day in the motor home, he he.

So I looked for the most popular Bruce Springsteen song on iTunes. To my surprise, it was not "Born in the USA", but rather "Secret Garden". This one is from an album called "songs from chick flick movies". Greg, I hope you really like it: ;-)

(Actually, the movie "Jerry Macguire" which made this song popular is one of my favorites.)

To my amazement, second song on the popularity list is "Streets of Philadelphia". (From the 1993 movie "Philadelphi" - Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington) This will be great for educating your kids! It is about a homosexual man with AIDS... you are welcome! ;-)

Finally, here is a song I kind of just like:

PS. I only paid for these songs once. All you fellow followers will need to buy your own. :-)
