Mission across Michigan

OK this is the closest that we have come to cutting out an entire segment of our trip.  The fact that we are getting cooler weather than normal, combined with the dreary forecast, almost had us canceling our foray north. In the end we decided that it might rain for a month and we'd have to still press on, so that's what we did.  To be honest if it were up to Greg we'd have probably moved on, however, I could not let the dream of seeing Mackinac Island fade that easily.  Plus I argued, the forecast can often be wrong; it said showers, not rain - that could mean anything, right?

So we drove all the way up the west coast along Lake Michigan.  It was a beautiful drive with tons of quaint coastal villages along the water.  If it wasn't freezing here half the year, it would make me want to move here.  We made it to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park and could see that it had been raining (the sand was really wet).  However it did not even sprinkle on us the entire time we were there.

We went down to the beach in Glen Haven and then climbed a huge sand dune in bare feet.  We did have to thaw our toes out once we got back into the RV but at least we could pretend that we had hit this place at the right time of year for a few moments.  This is a place that we'd like to visit again - in the summer.
