Mystic Seaport

The sun has returned!!  The kids took advantage of it for a few hours riding bikes and scooters while I gave the boys haircuts and corrected the last week of schoolwork, and Greg fixed a few items on the rig.  After yesterday being cooped up in bad weather all day, everyone needed a little time to chill! (especially Mom). We headed to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut to get a crash course on the history of American seafaring.  We were able to tour an old tall ship as well as the only remaining wooden whaler in the world.  It was dry docked for some maintenance, and the kids thought that it looked exactly like Noah’s ark.

There was an accurate re-creation of the Nantucket lighthouse.  There were old ship chains and anchors scattered around (did that sign say don’t climb?) and lots of boats and historic buildings and shops with displays.

Later, we walked through town across a very cool drawbridge and ate dinner at Mystic Pizza. (Remember that old Julia Roberts flick of the same name? Ok I never saw it myself, but remember thinking that it had such a lame name – apparently it all happened here -who knew??)
