"What exactly are grits?"

We started this morning in Beaufort, South Carolina with a tour of the historic homes (there are many).  We had to detach as there were a few clearance issues due to low hanging branches.  It was our first real taste of what we always imagined the south to be – complete with hanging moss on every tree.

The next stop was Hilton Head Island, a resort area that we have heard much about but have never visited.  It was as expected very nice, with long white sand beaches.  An added bonus was that we could ride our bikes all over; there are paths that take you right down the the wet sand.  The kids had a blast riding in the waves.

Savannah, Georgia was the next stop.  When we stopped to detach the car so that we could drive around the historic area, the boys rebelled.  The said that they would rather eat pizza in the RV, than go and tour around “a bunch of more old houses.”  So Greg & I took the girls and went to dinner and got a little "south in our mouth" at Paula Deen’s restaurant “Lady & Sons." It was amazing - look at Kambria's pot pie. The boys have no idea what they traded for Little Caesar's.  We got ice cream at Leopold’s and then walked around the historic riverfront district.  It was a cool town, although a bit “seedier” than Charleston.

  1. That's a pot pie? It's huge. Glad the weather cooperated with you at Hilton Head. I've been hearing about all the hurricanes and wind along that route lately. Looks like you're still having fun.
