The Next Step

We met with Dr Chung today and he said that Greg's surgical incisions look great.  In fact, he has been cleared for swimming (which if it decides to warm up will be really fun).

The meeting with our oncologist, Dr Srinivas, was very productive and informative.  After going over all the cancer treatment options available for RCC, we have decided to hopefully start with Interleukin-2 (IL-2).  If everything tests out OK, Greg will start his first round of immunotherapy at the end of the month.  He will remain hospitalized for the duration of the treatment (5 days).  He will then be home for 8 days, and then back for another 5 days of treatment.  There are many side effects of this treatment that sometimes make it impossible to finish the full 5 days each time so we are praying that these will be minimal and that the treatment will be as effective as possible in creating a response (tumor shrinkage).

In the meantime Greg will spend a few days at Stanford this week and possibly next, getting all of the necessary scans and tests needed to begin the Interleukin treatment.  Many thanks to Dick Peery & Karyn Allen for smoothing the way and helping us get all the appointments lined up.  It has made a huge difference.

On the bright side, we are really enjoying our drives to and from the Bay Area (lots of quality time) and the kids are enjoying spending extra time with cousins and friends.  It is a blessing that this all happened in the middle of a relatively carefree (schedule-free) summer.

Mason is at diving camp at BYU this week (his foot is still numb on top and is still tender but he decided to go and do what he can).  He is planning to be back to regular diving practice when he returns.

Greg and I both want to offer our sincerest thanks for all of your continual prayers and support, and all of the well wishes, treats, meals etc...  it makes us feel so cared for and loved.  We really truly feel that we are so blessed in all the ways that matter most.
