Halfway Mark

Greg is seven for seven as of 6:00PM this evening.  Which means that seven doses have been administered out of a possible fourteen for this week.  The IL-2 doses are given every eight hours at set times (6:00PM, 2:00AM, 10:00AM).  The goal is to get as many as you can up to fourteen.  About two hours before each dose is scheduled, they do an assessment of Greg's vitals and a few blood tests that determine kidney function etc... to see if Greg "qualifies" for the next dose.  If everything looks good, then they order it.  If a dose is skipped for any reason, then we will wait until the next scheduled one (no making up skipped doses later).  We haven't had that happen yet, although they keep telling us that it most likely will, so we are trying to prepare ourselves.

The reaction to the IL-2 is cumulative, since more and more stays in your system with each dose.  So predictably, Greg's side effects are getting more severe each time, but he is still hanging in there (with wit and humor in most cases).  We are hoping that he will get as many doses as he can possibly handle.   But even more importantly, we are praying that the IL-2 is doing its job to jump-start Greg's  immune system into recognizing the cancer cells as such and kill them.

One way or another, Greg will be finished with this series of doses on Saturday at 2:00AM.  If there are no complications, he will hopefully be sleeping in his own bed Saturday night.  We feel that things are going as well as they possibly could and continue to feel blessed for all of the dear friends and family who have reached out to us and let us know of their prayers and fasting.  It means so much to us.
