4 down, 10 more to go

Lake Powell was amazing as always.  Great friends, weather, hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, eating, reading, game playing and lots of laughing.

We did experience a few "technical" difficulties in transit.  Our beloved RV, (which took us 17,000 miles without a serious breakdown), broke down in Las Vegas after a mere 511 miles.  Five hours, 50 phone calls, a very long taxi ride, and two rental vehicles later, we were back on the road headed to the lake, ski boat still in tow.  We were determined not to miss even one minute of this much need vacation.  And despite the best efforts of Dagen to get it repaired while we were houseboating, the RV is currently still at some diesel repair shop, somewhere in the Southwest.  Dagen and Mason towed the boat home with the rental truck, while the rest of us took the last Southwest flight out of Vegas.

You see, we were in quite a hurry to get back just in time for Greg and I to turn around and head to Palo Alto to get him admitted at Stanford for treatment.  It is Tuesday night and we are at Stanford Hospital - quite a contrast from where we were one week ago.  Greg was just given dose #4 of a possible 14 doses of Interleukin-2.  The potential side effects can be quite alarming (for those who have read about them online especially), but gratefully so far, there have only been a few that have shown up - mostly some severe chills/shakes and high fever, neither of which (luckily) are the type of side effects that will cause Greg to have to skip doses.  The things that are most likely to cause a skipped dose are low blood pressure or reduced kidney function.  While it is unlikely that he will get all 14 doses (the average is about 8-10), we are hoping for as many as possible.  So far so good!  In fact according to his current nurse Chris, Greg is a "rock star."  Of course he is!

Favorite scripture of late: "Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." Joshua 1:9  Thanks for all of the continued prayers and love.

  1. We are so glad you guys made it to your vacation! Darn the RV drama :( That last picture of Greg broke my heart. Poor guy. Keep strong Porter's, you have an awful lot of people praying for you and for Greg to have superman strength. The Rockstar comment was very appropriate ;)
