Day 1 - Washington DC

We started with a late breakfast at the hotel restaurant (bad waitress – good food).  We then walked a few blocks to the Museum of Natural History, where we spent most of the rest of the day.

We loved it all (with the exception of the 3D IMAX Wild Coast Ocean movie – pretty boring).  The kids especially loved the bones exhibit, which featured real human skeletons that have been uncovered and then the process by which they figured out who they are and what the circumstances of their deaths were.  The boys were fascinated by all of the skulls with bullet holes etc…  The gem and mineral display was another extensive and really cool wing (home of the Hope Diamond).  Kambria’s favorite was the live butterfly atrium.  Of course between the Ice Age and Walking with Dinosaurs movies, we were complete experts in the prehistoric wing.  They also had an ocean section with that giant 36’ squid that was found dead off the coast of Spain somewhere.

When we finally made our way out of the museum, it was time for dinner.  Greg stopped to get some tennis shoes, since he had not packed anything but flip-flops (hey – we were in a hurry).  The weather is sunny but not quite flip-flop worthy.  We then took a taxi to the Lincoln Memorial - really cool all lit up at night.  We walked past all the War Memorials (the “new” WWII memorial was awesome) and all the way to the Washington Monument.  It's a bit of a trek - Avi was a trooper!

  1. Hey guys glad to see you are still having fun. I think some of my people would have killed each other by now (haley and brad)! We had the baby. Kellen Trey Guinn is his name, and he is 2 weeks old. You can check him out on guinngang.blogspot.com Oh and tell Mason that Davin got his drivers license today. You guys were such cute 6 year olds just yesterday!

  2. I'm glad you got to see the World War 2 memorial at night. I thought it was so impressive. Didn't see the human skeleton bones in the natural history museum. That would have been interesting.
