The twins were a little disappointed to wake up and find that we had not been magically transported to Disney World for their birthday. Instead they had the opportunity to drive through Southern Virginia and into Tennessee in the pouring rain (still a beautiful drive though). Actually since we had declared their birthday to be school and piano free, they were quite content. Avi on the other hand, who still had to do all of her work, said quite emphatically, “I HATE this birthday.” Grandma & Grandpa Porter managed to get a birthday present through to the boys – and they were very excited about that.
We stopped in Kingsport, TN to visit our good friends from BYU, David & Jen Golden. Greg was in the dorms with Dave, and later he & I graduated in the same law school class. We have stayed in touch but haven’t seen them since Kambria was a baby. (They looked exactly the same, but with much older children). We left the kids to eat pizza and went out to dinner. Any doubts I had about leaving Dane & Drake on their birthday were totally eclipsed by their excitement at getting to play halo in a real house with friends. It was a fun (late) evening all around. The rain didn’t stop until early morning and we discovered that if we are parked at just the right angle, facing just the right direction, with the rain coming down in just the right amounts, then somehow water manages to leak through the roof and drip all over the dash. Interesting…

Happy birthday, Drake and Dane!! We love you!
