We are finally back in school!

The kids finally went back to school this week - well at least Dane, Drake and Avalon - a full 5 weeks after poor Mason and Kambria (who started in the middle of the summer in my opinion).  In any case, the new facility for Marble Valley School has been under construction all spring and summer and there was one unexpected additional week of delay due to a rather cranky county inspector, but it all worked out and the new school is beautiful.  It is amazing what my mother has accomplished!! Greg has been working hard helping her out with the networking, phone and security systems.

We took advantage of the extra week with an impromptu trip to Disneyland with the Lyons and the other Porters.  It was so much fun!! and of course since it got planned about 12 hours before we left, it worked out great!  I felt bad for leaving Mason and Kambria to fend for themselves for a few days, but they did great and were very resourceful in taking care of themselves (ie mooching off of their cousins)

This is from Avi's first soccer game of the season.  She dreads practice (too hot) but really lights it up during the games.  With a season of soccer, flag football and basketball underway, it sometimes seems like life is pretty normal.  However, I glanced over at my kitchen counter and realized that some things have really changed.

To anyone who knows me well, this is not how my counter normally looks.  Yes, that is wheat grass (and not cadbury egg in sight).  During his last treatment, Greg was anemic to the the point of possibly needing blood.  Before you assume anything, when I went to donate blood for him, I was also so low in iron that I could not even donate.  And of course with one kidney, animal protein is out!  Thus... overheard in the kitchen today,  Drake: "You should have seen how fast I ran the mile today because I drank that green smoothie."Kambria: "Mom, do you think that you could get cups that we can't see through - I think it would be easier to drink this if I could NOT see what color it was."
